BIOPOL 2026 brought together researchers and industry professionals from around the world in Pisa. FURIOUS was among them with talks, posters and demonstrators.
From the M36 meeting in Maastricht to BIOPOL 2026 in Pisa. Last July, the FURIOUS team was present at the 10th International Conference on Bio-based and Biodegradable Polymers (BIOPOL 2026), held in Pisa, Italy.
Over three days, researchers around the world gathered to share their latest advances in sustainable materials, with the conference focusing on topics such as bio-based polymer synthesis, biocomposites, biopolymers for advanced applications and the industrial uptake of biopolymer solutions.
FURIOUS was represented throughout the conference. The first day set the tone with four oral presentation from consortium partners, covering a range of topics, from the processing of biopolymeric blends (Debora Puglia, University of Perugia) and photoactive resins for 3D printing (Alessandro Coatti, University of Bologna), to sustainable copolyesters for packaging (Ignacio Solaberrieta, University of Alicante) and the scale-up of PTF-based materials for medical applications (Anna Szymczyk, West Pomeranian University of Technology)
The second day opened with Serena Danti (University of Pisa) exploring the potential of piezoelectric polymers and nanocomposites, and closed with Nadia Lotti (University of Bologna) making the case for the remarkable versatility of 2,5-FDCA in polyester design.
The project was also present in the poster session, where two more facets of the research were on display: the compatibilization strategies for PBS/PBF blends (Debora Puglia) and the development of sustainable furan-based copolyesters for light-guiding fibres (Edoardo Bondi).
Finally, FURIOUS set up a stand that gave visitors the opportunity to see for themselves the prototypes created to date.
Without a doubt, these three days have been a real pleasure, as we’ve loved sharing the progress of our project with everyone in the audience and now, online, with all of you.
Let’s keep working towards a world of bioplastics!
