Avantium joins FURIOUS reinforcing leadership in renewable and circular polymers

The FURIOUS consortium is pleased to announce the incorporation of AVANTIUM (Netherlands) as a new project partner as of 1 August 2025. Avantium is a leading technology company in renewable and circular polymers, dedicated to accelerating the transition from fossil-based to sustainable materials. From its headquarters in Amsterdam, a team of more than 300 professionals works to develop and commercialise cutting-edge technologies that convert renewable feedstocks into valuable chemicals and circular plastics.

New FURIOUS video - Biopolymers: the challenge of our times

Rethinking plastics with biopolymers

Biopolymers represent one of the most critical challenges of our time. As the world moves away from traditional petroleum-based plastics, scientists are racing to develop bio-based alternatives that can match their performance. In this context, the FURIOUS project is stepping up, aiming to improve the properties of biopolymers to make them viable for large-scale, high-performance use.

FURIOUS partners met in Bologna for the periodical meeting

Furan-based plastics are a hot topic right now, and partners of the FURIOUS project do not want to miss any opportunity to discuss together the advances needed to achieve the milestones of the project. This time, partners met in Bologna, Italy, at the premises of the Department Of Civil, Chemical, Environmental, and Materials Engineering of the University of Bologna.

The revolution of furan-based plastics is here!

In an era when environmental concerns have reached a crescendo, the search for eco-friendly alternatives to traditional plastics has intensified. We need to look for promising alternatives to fossil-based plastics while preserving the characteristics that conventional plastics have: lightweight, durability, affordable prices, among other characteristics.

The FURIOUS project will help in finding the way towards new bio-based polymers that can be the constituent of revolutionary bio-based plastics.
