Three European research projects, one shared goal: bringing sustainable materials to the automotive industry. On 27 March, FURIOUS, THERMOFIRE and POLYMEER launched the “From Lab to Road” webinar series with a first episode on Biobased Polymers and Composites for Automotive Applications.
On 27 March 2026, the FURIOUS, THERMOFIRE and POLYMEER projects joined forces for the first episode of the “From Lab to Road” webinar series, focusing on Biobased Polymers and Composites for Automotive Applications. The session brought together 38 attendees from industry, research and academia, reflecting the broad interest in the topic across different sectors.
The webinar opened with Roy Visser (Avantium), who introduced the FURIOUS project and its work on biobased polymers. Patrizia Cinelli then took the floor to address the testing of polymers for automotive use, exploring how these materials perform under the demanding conditions of the industry.
THERMOFIRE was introduced by Jean Jacques Flat, giving an overview of the project and its objectives. This was followed by Eduardo López, who delved into composite formulation for automotive applications, and Eugenia Oliva, who brought the perspective of automotive end users into the conversation.
To close the session, Assunta Marrocchi introduced the POLYMEER project, followed by Odete Duarte on polymer flat-knit automotive textiles and their potential for the sector, and Massimo Fortunato, who addressed the importance of partnering for impact and unlocking the full potential of the value chain.
“From Lab to Road” is a webinar series bringing together European research projects working on sustainable materials for the automotive sector. This first episode is just the beginning – stay tuned for upcoming sessions.
