Highlights from the FURIOUS project’s M36 meeting

The FURIOUS consortium gathered in Maastricht on 29 and 30 of June for its latest project meeting, hosted by Maastricht University. Two days of technical updates, strategic discussions and a visit to Avantium’s production plant in Geleen.

Last week, on 29 and 30 June, the FURIOUS project held its M36 meeting in Maastricht (Netherlands). The university named after the city hosted the event.

Over the two days, the partners met to review the progress made over the last six months and agree on the way forward for the final phase of the project.

The meeting featured technical presentations by each of the partners, addressing topics such as the current status of each of the demonstrators under development across the three application sectors: biomedical and electronic packaging, the automotive sector and underwater devices. It is expected that some of these demonstrators will be presented at BIOPOL 2026, a conference that brings together researchers and industry professionals to discuss and present innovations ins bio-based polymers, biodegradability testing, biomaterials…

At the end of the second day, we travelled to Avantium’s production plant in Geleen, the partner responsible for producing the raw material, FDCA.

Seeing the production process on an industrial scale was a valuable reminder of the wider ecosystem in which FURIOUS operates.
