Highlights from the FURIOUS project’s M30 meeting

In December, partners of the FURIOUS project met in Vienna to review ongoing work and align on priorities for the next phase of the project.

Day 1 – Project overview and technical progress

The meeting opened with a welcome and introduction by Angelika Weiler (Ecoplus), followed by a general overview of the project presented by Debora Puglia, who outlined the current status of the work and the main objectives moving forward.

The consortium then reviewed project coordination and management aspects, sharing updated on overall progress and upcoming activities. As Avantium recently joined the consortium, the company presented its role in the project, explaining its contribution as a feedstock provider and how it will support different areas of the project.

The first day continued with a series of technical presentations focused on the development of eco-designed polymers, the characterisation of furan-based materials, and their application in electronic and biomedical packaging.

Day 2 – Applications, sustainability and communication

The second day focused on application-oriented activities, starting with the use of furan-based thermoplastics in automotive applications, followed by presentations on materials developed for underwater sensors and robotic systems.

Further sessions addressed circular-by-design approaches, safety, sustainability and economic aspects, as well as communication, dissemination and exploitation activities, highlighting how project results will be shared with stakeholders and future users.

The meeting concluded with closing remarks and the definition of a to-do list for the next six months. The active exchange of ideas and the collaborative approach throughout the meeting strengthened coordination within the consortium and supported the project’s continued progress towards the development of high-performance, bio-based polymer solutions.
